The battery pack is "smart" in that it contains electronics that keep track of how many charging / discharging cycles it is used for, so that the user knows when it may be time to replace the battery pack. The battery pack will last for at least 500 full charge / discharge cycles. Extra battery packs can be purchased to replace worn-out ones, or simply to enable Entel walkie-talkies users to keep their radios operating 24 hours a day by swapping battery packs and recharging them separately from the radios.
